Nevada Wier is an award-winning photographer specializing in images from the remote corners of the globe and the cultures that inhabit them. Her journeys have taken her throughout Southeast and Central Asia, India, China, Nepal, Africa, New Zealand, Mongolia, South America and other distant corners of the globe. Nevada Wier’s first photography exhibition, this show, spans a period of 25 years. Many of the images are widely known from her editorial assignments with magazines, such as, National Geographic, Islands, Smithsonian, and many others. However, the majority of the images in the show are from her books and personal projects; some have never been seen before.

"I am attracted to what is beautiful in the world. I am most interested in ethnic groups that inhabit the more remote regions of countries. I have no desire to mythologize their cultures but I do believe in celebrating light, color, and the exuberance of special moments. I love photographing the individual spirit of people and details within their traditions."

All of Nevada Wier’s images are printed in her studio: she oversees every technical and aesthetic detail in the printmaking process. Of this she says, "It is joy to return to the art of printmaking. The advent of digital printing allows me to control details in images that was impossible to do in the color wet-darkroom. Although I do not crop or change any content of an image, I do enjoy trying subtle creative techniques."

In addition to her editorial assignments, Nevada Wier has also been the photographer for various book publications including "
The Land of Nine Dragons - Vietnam Today" (Abbeville Press), winner of the Lowell Thomas Best Travel Book of 1992. She was also the author and photographer of "Adventure Travel Photography" (Amphoto) and a participating photographer in "A Day in the Life of Thailand" (Collins), "Planet Vegas" (Collins) and "Mother Earth" (Sierra Clubs Books). Ms. Wier has also participated in several television programs involving her travels on assignment with National Geographic including "Through the Lens," as well as "Canon Photo Safaris" (Outdoor Life Network), and she has been a regular guest on The Travel Channel. She was a speaker for the 2000 nation-wide tour "LIVE...from National Geographic", and she has participated in numerous other seminars and professional panels.

Nevada Wier leads custom photography tours with Mountain Travel*Sobek. She is a Fellow of The Explorer's Club and a member of the Women's Geographic Society. Her stock imagery can be found at Getty Images, Blend, and Corbis. Ms. Wier also teaches photography workshops for The Santa Fe Workshops, The Rocky Mt. School of Photography, Mountain Light, Sundance, and other educational institutions. Nevada Wier is based in Santa Fe, New Mexico USA.
