Getting In On The Action

The Lowdown on Motion Pictures

Rafter, Colorado River

In The Suds. Colorado River. I took this shot of Kent Madin on Hance Rapid crouching low in the front of the boat. I protected my Nikon N8008S with a 24mm AF lens with an EWA Marina U-FPN waterproof flexible housing. I set my camera on 1/500 second atf/4 with Fuji Velvia film. I wanted a dramatic shot as the water surged over the boat when we hit the rapids. The film advance was on CH--continuous high mode; I shot throughout the rapid, using almost an entire roll of film. I snapped the moment the water began breaking over the boat. The fast shutter speed froze the water, and Kent in mid-grimace.
