This festival of the Miao tribe was tough to photograph. It was crowded and jostling, difficult to frame an image without an unwanted elbow or passerby. I knelt low and shot upwards so the sky became an uncluttered backdrop. I used a wide-angle lens very close to my subjects to increase the view and add a sense of dimension. (Notice that there are at least five layers in this image.) Balanced fill-flash brightens the faces. (Kodak 100SW pushed to 400 ISO)
